[Photo] 855 S. Koreans died in workplace accidents in 2019

According to data released by Statistics Korea, a total of 855 South Koreans died in workplace accidents in 2019. Although this figure showed an 11.9% decrease in workplace deaths compared to the previous year, it still falls short of the Moon administration’s promises to drastically reduce the number of workplace deaths. Among the 855 workers who died on the job in 2019, 428 worked on construction sites. The labor community, while applauding the improvement, called on the government to increase its efforts to reduce and prevent workplace accidents. (Hankyoreh archives)
