Launched on Jan. 8, 1992, the Wednesday Demonstrations began as a weekly protest against the Japanese government’s refusal to apologize for the sexual enslavement of comfort women during its colonial occupation of Korea. Excepting two days when the demonstrations were cancelled out of respect for the victims of the Kobe earthquake of 1995 and the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, demonstrators have gathered on behalf of the comfort women on every Wednesday s
