Photos of the Gwangju Democratization Movement of 1980 have been publicly released after 39 years. Several of the photos show female demonstrators who took up arms against the military dictatorship of Chun Doo-hwan. Most of the photos were taken by undercover agents under the then Defense Security Command, while some of them were confiscated from journalists. They were transferred to the National Archives by the Defense Security Support Command upon an executive order from President Moon Jae-in on May 18, 2017.
