20 members of the Korean Olympic women’s ice hockey team, including team captain Park Jong-ah and coach Sarah Murray, were celebrated during a dinner at the Suwon City Hall on Mar. 26. 200 citizens from Suwon also participated in the event. “This was the first unified Korean Olympic team in history and they have been leaders in all things, from helping the Pyeongchang Olympics become the ‘Peace Olympics’ to the sprouting of peace through the upcoming inter-Korean and North Korea-US summits,” said Suwon Mayor Yeom Tae-young.

On the same day, Roh Tae-kang, the Vice Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, attended a groundbreaking ceremony for a 50 billion won ($46 million) domed ice rink at the Suwon Gwanggyo Lake Park. The rink is scheduled to open by 2021. The ice rink will house the newly established Suwon City women’s hockey team, which was created in honor of the Olympic team.
