“The Good Doctor,” an American remake of a South Korean drama which was filmed in 2013, has been renewed for a second season in on the US broadcaster ABC. The series is produced by Korean-American actor Daniel Dae-Kim, who bought the production rights to the show and adapted it for the American market. ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey recently attributed the show’s success, in part, to viewers’ need for an emotional uplift, telling the Television Critics Association that, “It’s a show that’s hopeful and optimistic and really engages the audience in great ways.”

The show tells the story of Shaun Murphy (played by Freddie Highmore) as a surgeon with autism and savant syndrome who works at a prestigious hospital following a rough childhood upbringing. (taken from the ABC website)
