The South Korean women’s curling team – alternatively nicknamed the “Garlic Girls,” and “Team Kim,” due to the fact that all of the team members have the family name Kim and several of them hail from Uiseong County in North Gyeongsang Province, which is famous for its garlic – has begun appearing in advertisements for various products following their successful performance in the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. Among the products being endorsed by the women are LG vacuum cleaners and Uiseong garlic ham. The team took the silver medal in the Olympics, with its only loss coming in the final game against Sweden. (by Kim Seong-gwang, staff photographer)
