A Play on the Word ‘Daechu’

Daechu-ri is the location of the U.S. military base expansion in the Pyeongtaek area where police evicted protesters on Thursday.

Daechu is the Korean word for jujube, or Chinese date.

While unrelated semantically, the Korean spelling of "daechu" in Daechu-ri and the word for jujube are the same and have the same pronunciation.

President Roh Moo Hyun says that he likes daechu, but he's drinking from a bottle that says "Ground Daechu-ri, the implication being that Daechu-ri has been put through a grinder.
